Hurricane Reminders and Rules
If you leave town, please fill out an Emergency Contact Card with the SCC Security Patrol or a neighbor. Leave a key with a neighbor and/or have a key available via a combination key safe (e.g., GE KeySafe) that you install on a wall outside your front door. Available from http://www.amazon.com.
If you have pets inside, please display a sticker on a front window that indicates the type and number of pets you have inside to be rescued (e.g., 2 cats). Pet rescue decals are available from http://www.amazon.com
Seasonal protection devices like roll-down shutters, storm shutters that go on the sides of windows and can be closed, lexon shutters, fabric screens, corrugate aluminium or steel, and Bahaman types of storm shutters are allowed. These must be attached so they blend in with the home. These devices may be left in place from June 1 through November 30 each year. After this time they should be taken down and stored until next season.
Plywood may only be used if it is secured properly to the home. (Concrete nails are specifically EXCLUDED as a fastening device) Plywood must be painted to match the house if it is repeatedly used. Plywood must be removed within five (5) days when there is no named storm present and stored out of sight.
